The Little Mermaid
“Under the Sea”

AHS Thespians take on their biggest production yet in Disney’s juggernaut musical, The Little Mermaid.

Little Mermaid performances are Friday, April 19 and 26, at 6:30pm; Saturday, April 20 and 27, at 6:30pm; with a Saturday matinee on April 27, at 11:00am. The April 27 matinee performance will also feature special ticket add-ons including a post-show meet and greet with Ariel. Location is the Alhambra High School Auditorium at 101 S. 2nd Street (between Main and Commonwealth).

The 2008 musical is based on the 1989 The Little Mermaid animated film of the same name, which was in turn adapted from an 1837 original fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson.  The story follows Ariel, a mermaid who longs to be human. When she rescues Eric, a human prince, from drowning during a shipwreck, she resolves to become part of the human world. Triton, her disapproving father, believes all humans to be dangerous and forbids Ariel to go to the surface again. This drives her into the snare of an evil sea witch, Ursula, who offers Ariel a trade: her voice for human legs. The catch is that Ariel only has three days to get Eric to kiss her, or her soul will belong to Ursula forever. With the help of her friends Flounder, Scuttle, and Sebastian, Ariel tries to win the love of Prince Eric, defeat the wicked Ursula, and set things right with her father.

The show stars Jeylin Geurrero (Ariel),  Leonardo De Dios (Eric), Mia Reyes-Salguero (Ursula), Benjamin Alo (Sebastian), Yvette Hernandez (Flounder), Jeremy Chico (Scuttle) and Jadin Kennedy (Triton). And features Kaylie Agustin, Chloe Avila, Maya Church, Laureen De La Riva, Janice Urive, and Jay Xu (Mersisters), Jeffrey Hu and Jocelyn Zelda (Flotsam and Jetsam), Gray Lina (Chef Louis), and Bronson Avalos (Grimsby). Including Ivy Chau, Celeste Cisneros, Sebastian Flores, Sujey Flores-Marquez, Paulina Georgoulis, Vincent Gomez, Stephanie Ho, Sophia Marquez, Danica Neri, Ruby Prieto, James Rubio, and Abigail Velazquez.

Crew members include Natalia Sanchez (Stage Manager, Carpentry), Fatima Guajardo Glover, Ana Villaverde, and Yan Trang (Assistant Stage Managers), Chloe Avila, Samantha Gutierrez, and Randi Hall (Lighting), Sophia Jimenez, Ynah Sampilo, and Jolie Yin (Sound), Mia Lai and Jada Leung (Costumes), Kailtyn Angulo and Angela Wu (Wardrobe/Makeup), Jessica Campos (Scenic Paint), Ace Barrigan, Maria Gonzalez and Asher Wong (Props), Gilbert Chazaro, Leema Crosby, Kayla Fee, Kisa Lai, Victoria Ly (Stage Crew).

It is directed by AHS Theater Arts teacher Rachel Snow, with choreography by Jessica Beron, musical direction by Sam Chen, scenic design and technical direction by Brian Cole, and assistant direction by Natalie Villareal.
